Detoxification: Drug Treatment Programs

We have a crisis in this country with drug treatment programs. Too many of them offer cursory solutions based on behavioral models that work temporarily, if at all. Needless to say, the recidivism rate for such approaches has not improved much in the last several decades.

The problem is that addiction is a disease thats hamstrung from a deep lack of understanding from the popular press, media, and even treatment circles. Not everyone benefits from 12-step programs, but those who do occasionally find themselves in environments where the steps simply dont work. There are countless clinics and other treatment centers that offer careless approaches that only exacerbate the problem.

Better Forms of Drug Treatment
The good news is that a growing number of forward-looking clinics and rehabilitation centers are taking steps to make their diagnosis and treatment more accurate. Alcoholism and other substance abuse issues are widely correlated with a variety of other metal illnesses, including depression, bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder. Treating the addiction as somehow separate from these issues simply doesnt make sense from a clinical perspective.

If you are looking for more thorough and effective approaches to recovery, you may want to check out some of the next-generation methodologies. Southern California has proved to be one of the major centers of change in this area, which may be one of the reasons so many people come from across the country to get well here. A little research on the Web should turn up places that do a better job than those neighborhood detox centers, and provide beautiful and private environments in which to find tranquility and freedom from addiction.
